Belakangan makin rame aja orang yang recommend film ini, so akhirnya saya penasaran and donlot cos tidak bisa menemukannya di lapak DVD.
Dan ternyata cukup bagus …
… for a spiritual documentary movie!
Dengan presentasi dan spirit ala film What The Bleep (in fact ada beberapa same speaker featured in that movie), The Secret berbicara tentang the so-called ‘Law of Attraction’ yang simply says “When you visualize, you materialize,” and “You get what you focus on.”
But sayangnya, that kind of principle udah classic and cheesy banget so saya nontonnya ngantuk-bosen gitu. It failed to convince me that whatever message its trying to pull is more than a self-help industry crap which had already been redundantly repeated and repackaged in our modern times.
Though my current line of profession(s) is also part such Feel-Good Inc., but I’m fully aware the bullsh*t nature of my own counsels and, more often than not, expose the weakspots / fallacy right after the service is given in order to nullify the blind-obedience effect. Where can I find that in movie? Nowhere. It’s not meant for creating a healthy balanced mind; it’s meant for conversion.
The movie shamelessly spots our crave for Easy-One-Size-Fits-All Answer yang bisa unlock the kind of life we always wanted, i.e. healthy, wealthy, being successful, etc. It offers a good banter, counter-response explanation, description, the whys and howtos of such ultimate revelation would be able to help our life, but it never addresses whether or not there is only one grand-ultimate answer in the first place.
All in all, it’s a mediocre movie with questionable science and embarrassingly huge amount of snake-oil charms.
